Delhi: 13-year-old girl raped, blackmailed with videos of the act; man held

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old man here, who apparently recorded the act and later blackmailed her with the clips, subjecting her to repeated sexual assault, police sources said on Friday.

The accused was arrested after the victim's family lodged a complaint on May 21, with police registering an FIR under charges of rape, criminal intimidation and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a source said.

The incident took place in northeast Delhi's Khajuri Khas area.

''The victim had recently shifted to a rented accommodation in Khajuri Khas area with her family. The girl's family in their statement alleged that she came in contact with the accused as the latter frequently visited her sister, who lived in the same building where the girl stayed earlier,'' the source said.

The accused later approached the girl on social media. Subsequently, the two started meeting each other.

The girl alleged the accused first took her to a friend's house and later to a factory where he raped her and recorded videos of the act.

''Using the videos to threaten her, the accused allegedly continued to sexually assault the minor at different locations,'' the source added.

The matter came to light after the accused allegedly misbehaved with the girl in front of his friends, following which the traumatised girl narrated the ordeal to her mother.

Based on the complaint, police arrested the accused and initiated further investigation.

A police officer said efforts are underway to recover electronic evidence, including the purported videos which were allegedly used to blackmail the girl.
