JK: Man arrested for raping, murdering girl in Budgam

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 12-year-old girl in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

The police arrested the accused after a thorough investigation, they said, adding that further details are awaited.

The girl, who went missing on Saturday evening from the Galwanpora area of the Budgam district, was later found murdered around 200 metres from her house on Sunday, a senior police officer said.

''A case of kidnapping a minor child was registered, and searches were carried out. Unfortunately, the body of the child was found today (Sunday) morning,'' Budgam SSP Hariprasad K K had said, adding that the body was sent for post-mortem.

''Prima facie, it seems to be a case of rape and murder. We have added the relevant sections of the law to the FIR,'' he had said.
