Man arrested for trying to extort money from bank manager in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan

A man was arrested on Monday for allegedly trying to extort money from a bank manager in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district, a police officer said.

A case was registered on the statement of the Jharkhand Gramin Bank, Kandra branch manager, after he received the ransom call from the man over phone, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Seraikela) Anubhav Bhardwaj at a press conference here.

Lohar told the bank manager that he was in jail and urgently needed Rs 50,000 to pay his lawyer to get bail.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Superintendent of Police Nidhi Dwivedi formed a police team headed by Bhardwaj to investigate and apprehend the culprit, the SDPO said.

The team led by Inspector Vinod Kumar Murmu, the Officer-in-Charge of Kandra police station, conducted a raid based on evidence gathered through human sources as well as the technical cell and arrested 38-year-old Bunty Guha, a resident of Golpahari locality under Parsudih police station of Jamshedpur, from near Mango Bus Stand in Jamshedpur, the police officer said.

Guha, who had a criminal antecedent with five cases pending in different police stations of Jamshedpur, was currently working in a private firm based in Kolkata.

Process was underway to forward him to judicial custody, the SDPO added.
