A man was found dead with his hands and legs tied and throat slit in Aami river area of Gorakhpur on Monday morning, police said.

Police suspect that the killers dumped the body in a sack near the riverbank to conceal the identity of the deceased.

The discovery of the body near Semrahwa Baba temple in Bharsand triggered panic in the area. A police team, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and began an investigation to identify the victim and trace those involved in what is suspected to be a murder.

According to police, villagers spotted the sack lying near the riverbank around 7.00 am and alerted authorities. When the sack was opened, the body of a man, believed to be around 30 years old, was found inside. His hands and legs were tied with ropes, while deep injury marks on his neck suggested that his throat had been slit with a sharp weapon.

Investigators suspect that the murder took place elsewhere and the body was later dumped near the riverbank.

The forensic team collected evidence from the spot, while police have started checking missing persons reports from nearby villages and police stations.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

SP (North) Gyanendra Nath Prasad said further action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and investigation findings. He added that police are probing all possible angles in the case.
