West Bengal Allocates Land for Enhanced Border Security with Bangladesh

The West Bengal government has allocated 142.79 acres to the BSF to develop outposts and fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, as confirmed by Suvendu Adhikari. This effort is a continuation of the government's strategy outlined in its first cabinet session on May 11 to fast-track border security measures.

This initiative aims to reinforce border security through the establishment of BSF outposts and barbed-wire fencing. The latest land transfer elevates the total to 142.79 acres dedicated to this project. Adhikari provided a detailed district-wise chart on social media, showing land allocation across nine districts.

In the initial phase, 43 acres in five districts and 31.9 acres of approved land were handed to the BSF by May 20. These actions arise from a strategic plan announced by Adhikari to expedite fencing and tackle illegal immigration.

West Bengal shares a complex 2,217-kilometer border with Bangladesh, of which 1,600 kilometers already have fencing in place, leaving approximately 600 kilometers yet to be covered.
