The North Eastern Council (NEC) has allocated an impressive Rs 339.06 crore towards advancing various projects in Mizoram for the duration of the 15th Finance Commission period from 2022 to 2026.

The investment is directed under the Schemes of NEC (SoNEC) and the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-Roads), focusing on bolstering healthcare, education, tourism, agriculture, and livelihoods.

Under the SoNEC initiative, Rs 123.83 crore was channeled into diverse sectors including medical, veterinary, market infrastructure, education, and sports. Additionally, cultural heritage was supported through the establishment of various heritage centers and tourism circuits.

Further, the NESIDS-Roads scheme saw the commencement of six road projects costing Rs 277.99 crore to enhance regional connectivity, notably with the Saiha-Lungbun-Tlangnuam-Haka road upgrade benefiting southern Mizoram and the Myanmar border. The NEC's commitment extends to youth programs and scientific outreach, marking substantial progress in regional development.
