An Austrian court has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Beran A, to 15 years in prison for planning an Islamist attack on a Taylor Swift concert scheduled in 2024 in Vienna. The court found him guilty of mainly terrorism-related offenses, diverting the pop star's concert tour.
Beran A was arrested the day before the concert, causing the cancellation of all three Vienna dates. His admission to the charges, including attempting to acquire weapons and explosives, did not sway the jury. The court identified his involvement in plotting other attacks with associates.
Despite his apology in court, Beran A was convicted on most charges by a unanimous jury decision. His accomplice, Arda K, faced a 12-year sentence. Both their defense teams are considering appeals, as the legal process delivered a crushing judgment against the duo.
