Kerala's Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, expressed his dissatisfaction with 'Vande Mataram' not being sung in full during the Kerala Assembly session. This happened during the United Democratic Front government's policy address where he was in attendance.
According to Arlekar, proper protocol mandates that the national song be sung in its entirety when the Governor is present. He highlighted that during his visit, only the opening stanzas were performed by a band rather than being sung.
Arlekar, speaking to reporters at Lok Bhavan after the session, indicated that he had already discussed the matter with Assembly Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and anticipates remedial action.
The Bharatiya Janata Party had previously alleged that failing to sing the full version during the Governor's address amounted to an 'insult' to the institution of Lok Bhavan, bringing attention to the omission.
