The Aam Aadmi Party staged a symbolic 'Matka Phor' protest on Friday in Delhi, addressing acute water shortages affecting numerous neighborhoods. The protest targeted the BJP government, with AAP accusing it of failing to ensure adequate water supply across the capital.
Led by MLA Kuldeep Kumar, party members convened outside the Delhi Jal Board's office in Mayur Vihar Phase-2, displaying earthen pots and placards. They alleged that water provision in some areas had decreased by over 20%, blaming non-operational water treatment plants for exacerbating the situation.
AAP Delhi unit head Saurabh Bhardwaj critiqued claims made to the PMO that only 10-11% of the city was affected, arguing the true figure was as high as 40%. Complaints also mounted about many households receiving contaminated water.
Officials noted a reduced inflow of Yamuna river water, leading to diminished output at the Wazirabad and Chandrawal treatment plants, further contributing to the crisis.
