The Calcutta High Court has provided temporary protection to actor Parambrata Chatterjee, preventing police from taking coercive action against him. The legal move comes in response to a complaint regarding an alleged social media post he made after the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections.
The complaint, lodged on May 21 at Gariahat police station, suggested Chatterjee's post encouraged post-election violence. Chatterjee's legal team argued the FIR lacked clear evidence of criminal intent. Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee granted interim relief for four weeks, noting the need for cooperation with ongoing investigations. The interim order does not impede the police from completing their inquiry and filing a final report.
