The upcoming Census 2027 in Himachal Pradesh will not require participants to provide a One Time Password (OTP), officials confirmed. The census will be conducted in two phases, incorporating digital tools for improved accuracy and transparency, a novel approach for the region's data collection efforts.
The initial phase, starting from June 16 to July 15, will focus on house listing and housing census activities. This will collect comprehensive data on each housing unit and household within the state, guided by a set of 33 distinct questions. A self-enumeration option, available through a dedicated portal between June 1 and 15, allows citizens to provide information at their convenience, making the process more seamless.
The digital thrust includes using a mobile app—House Listing Operation (HLO)—to streamline data collection. Approximately 20,630 enumerators and supervisors will facilitate this phase's execution. The second census phase will occur from September 11 to 30 in snow-covered parts, and February 9 to 28, 2027, elsewhere, covering all areas thoroughly.
This digitized method aims to enhance the timeliness and reliability of census operations, with data serving as the backbone for planning significant developmental schemes, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and more in Himachal Pradesh.
