Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has directed local government departments to focus on sustainable practices and reduce unnecessary expenditure. These measures align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent call for austerity, aiming to preserve resources and fuel economic balance.

Officials explained that the new directives include cutting down fuel consumption, boosting renewable energy usage, and promoting local products through initiatives like 'vocal for local'. Departments have been instructed to devise plans within 30 days to ensure these practices are efficiently implemented.

Departments are tasked with reducing travel, adopting digital platforms for communication, and considering hybrid work models. The initiative aims to protect Ladakh's unique ecology through sustainable development and strengthens local tourism and agriculture sectors.

The administration will focus on solar energy, sustainable farming, and clean construction technologies. These changes are part of a broader strategy to position Ladakh at the forefront of sustainable governance, setting an example for other states.
