A Maharashtra social organisation, the Mahatma Phule Samaj Seva Mandal, has appealed to Narendra Modi to launch a comprehensive campaign against social discrimination faced by widows across the nation.
The group emphasized adopting the 'Herwad Pattern,' showcased by the Herwad village initiative that received recognition from the state government, to end practices that strip widows of dignity. They suggest integrating this movement with programs like 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' and enforcing legal measures against discriminatory customs.
The NGO's call to action aligns with International Widows' Day, promoting the idea that India can lead by example globally by officially presenting its initiatives to the United Nations.
They propose that eliminating such practices and ensuring dignity for widows can position India as a leader in women's rights and equality.
