A partially collapsed overpass under demolition in Seoul caused three fatalities and three injuries in a tragic accident, according to fire officials.
The incident occurred during a safety inspection when workers noticed part of the structure sinking. The victims were crushed by falling debris from the collapsed bridge section, said Lee Jong-woon of Seoul's Seodaemun District Fire Station.
Police and emergency services cordoned off the area, where precarious debris threatened further destruction. Debris also impacted a nearby railway, halting some operations to Seoul Station. The 1966 overpass had been under demolition since last August over safety fears.
