In a solemn ceremony at Imphal airport, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and officers paid their respects to the fallen BSF constable, Deepak Chingakham, who died from injuries in a Jammu and Kashmir cross-border firing.
As political leaders from various parties placed wreaths on his coffin, the loss of Chingakham resonated nationwide, marking him as a hero who laid down his life during a cross-border drone attack.
The state government announced an ex-gratia sum of Rs 10 lakh for his family, while BSF stated provisions for his brother's recruitment on compassionate grounds.
