In a crucial electoral test for political parties, the Visavadar and Kadi assembly constituencies in Gujarat witnessed significant voter turnout in the initial hours of the bypolls. By 11 am, Visavadar saw 28.15% of its electorate casting votes, while Kadi reported 23.85% turnout.
The two seats became vacant following the resignation and shifting allegiance of an AAP MLA in Visavadar and the unfortunate demise of a BJP MLA in Kadi. The BJP, Congress, and AAP have each fielded candidates, emphasizing the competitive nature of the race where new contenders seek victory through 294 polling stations.
This bypoll serves as a pivotal moment for the BJP, which hasn't claimed Visavadar since 2007. The results, expected on June 23, could reshape political dynamics in the 182-member Gujarat assembly, where the BJP dominates with 161 seats.
