The Maharashtra government announced an extension on Friday for withdrawing criminal cases associated with political and social protests, setting the new deadline as March 31, 2025. This decision comes as part of their ongoing effort to address cases that stem from public-benefiting agitations.
Initially, the state home department had communicated that all cases with a filed charge sheet by August 31, 2024, would be considered for withdrawal. However, this was found to exclude cases where charge sheets were filed after the specified date, prompting the recent extension.
According to the new government resolution, cases against political and social activists, where the charge sheet was completed by March 31, 2025, will also be eligible for withdrawal. This move aims to alleviate legal burdens connected with protests advocating for public interests.
