Siarhei Tsikhanouski, a prominent Belarusian opposition figure, has been released from imprisonment and is now in Lithuania with his family. The activist spent years in harsh solitary confinement and faced severe conditions, including limited access to food and medical care. Despite the challenges, Tsikhanouski remains committed to opposing the regime of Alexander Lukashenko and is calling for unity within the opposition.

Tsikhanouski was unexpectedly freed alongside other prisoners after Belarusian authorities met with a U.S. envoy. Though his release was seen as a political maneuver by some, Tsikhanouski insists he will not undermine the efforts of his wife, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who leads the Belarusian opposition.

In his first interview since release, Tsikhanouski credited U.S. President Donald Trump for contributing to his freedom. He expressed support for Ukraine, criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin for sustaining the Lukashenko regime. Tsikhanouski plans to undergo medical treatment and continue his opposition work, optimistic about democratic change in Belarus.
