TMC Heads Towards Victory in Kaliganj Bypoll

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leads the by-election race in Kaliganj, West Bengal's Nadia district, as counting continues. TMC candidate Alifa Ahamed has secured 32,308 votes, far ahead of Congress candidate Kabil Uddin Shaikh, who received 13,144 votes, and BJP's Ashis Ghosh, with 11,987 votes.

Officials highlighted that the electoral counting began at 8 am with the postal ballots and has proceeded peacefully. The by-election was necessitated by the untimely death of sitting TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed in February. To solidify its hold, TMC is fielding Nasiruddin's daughter Alifa.

Last Thursday's voting saw a turnout of 69.85 percent, with minor disturbances but largely peaceful execution. The community remains intently focused on the outcome, which could cement TMC's influence in the region.
