Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has successfully retained the Ludhiana West assembly seat, as Sanjeev Arora emerged victorious in a hard-fought electoral battle against Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Arora secured a significant lead of 10,637 votes, according to Election Commission data released on Monday.
The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. AAP's victory has solidified its position in the 117-member Punjab Assembly, where it holds 94 seats. Celebrations erupted as AAP's supporters marked the triumph with dances and sweets.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described the win as a testament to the state's satisfaction with AAP's governance. This victory is seen as crucial for boosting the party's morale, especially after the recent Delhi assembly elections. The bypoll outcome is considered indicative of AAP's preparation for the upcoming 2027 state assembly polls.
