Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has implemented stringent measures to tackle cybercrime linked to Cambodia, a move that reflects growing tensions between the two nations. The crackdown includes travel restrictions for casino-goers and cutting internet service to Cambodian agencies.

These measures follow a deadly clash on May 28 that intensified strained relations. As a consequence, Cambodia has retaliated by halting internet services and halting energy supplies from Thailand, potentially affecting the economies of both countries. Cambodia heavily relies on Thai imports of fuel and gas, making up significant portions of their national imports.

In a broader effort to combat cybercrime originating from Southeast Asia, Shinawatra aims to block exports to Cambodia that could aid in scam operations. Her actions have prompted domestic criticism and rallies calling for her resignation, especially after a controversial leak of a conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.
