The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has criticized Samajwadi Party's Abu Azmi, demanding action against remarks he made about 'wari', a significant devotional foot march to Pandharpur, Maharashtra. Azmi's comments have sparked outrage among NCP leaders, emphasizing the need for communal harmony in the state.
Anand Paranjpe, NCP's chief spokesperson, criticized Azmi's statements as inflammatory, calling him a 'toxic element' intent on disrupting community relations. Highlighting 'wari' as an 800-year-old tradition, he underscored the involvement of Muslims who join the march, showcasing religious unity.
Meanwhile, BJP's Nitesh Rane and Vishva Hindu Parishad officials echoed Paranjpe's concerns, urging respect for cultural practices. Azmi's words were labeled as disrespectful to Hindu rituals and a play on divisive politics, with demands for the government to act against such provocations.
