Ugandan President Museveni Set for Reelection Bid Amid Controversy

In a significant political development, Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni has confirmed his intention to seek reelection early next year. This announcement comes from the ruling National Resistance Movement Party, marking the first official confirmation of Museveni's candidacy.

Uganda's upcoming general election in January will see voters cast ballots for both the presidency and parliamentary seats. Museveni, who has held power since 1986, is one of Africa's longest-serving leaders. The ruling party has amended the constitution twice to facilitate his extended presidency.

Ahead of the election, Museveni's chief rival, Bobi Wine, also plans to run, following his close bid in 2021. Wine contests the previous election results, alleging electoral malpractice and security force interference. Museveni, however, attributes his prolonged leadership to popular support.
