The deadly incident occurred on Monday in Malandi village during a Trinamool Congress victory procession, sparking widespread concern. The police have booked all four suspects under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, citing charges such as rioting and culpable homicide. Meanwhile, the search for additional suspects continues.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed law enforcement to enforce strict legal action against those responsible. The incident has overshadowed Alifa Ahmed's significant bypoll win, necessitated by the untimely death of her father, former MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed.
