The 50th anniversary of India's Emergency was marked by remarks from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. He praised the Sangh Parivar and opposition leaders for their critical role in restoring democracy. Describing their efforts as 'historic,' Yadav aligned their struggle with India's fight for independence.
He also leveraged the occasion to attack Congress, calling for an apology from its current leadership. Yadav accused the party of mocking the Constitution during the Emergency when democracy was curtailed, and opposition leaders were jailed.
The ruling BJP observed the anniversary as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas,' commemorating the struggle during the 21-month period when civil liberties were suspended and press freedom was suppressed under then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's regime.
