Poland Faces Political Turmoil Over Wind Farm Legislation

Polish politics are in a state of tension as President Andrzej Duda faces pressure from the government to sign a controversial bill. The legislation, designed to make it easier to build wind farms, has been attached at the last moment to a measure intended to freeze power prices.

This move aligns with the liberal government's push to enhance renewable energy following the restrictive policies of the previous conservative regime. Duda, however, accuses the Prime Minister and his associates of coercing him to endorse the bill as his presidency nears its end.

The draft law is crucial for increasing renewable energy production and reducing electricity costs but must still pass through the Senate and receive the President's approval. Meanwhile, President-elect Karol Nawrocki has expressed reservations similar to Duda's about easing wind farm regulations.
