Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil has sharply criticized the state government's fiscal management after it presented supplementary demands of Rs 57,509 crore during the legislature's monsoon session. Patil argues this action has severely disrupted Maharashtra's fiscal balance and risks deepening social inequalities.
According to Patil, the growing fiscal strain could result in justice denial for marginalized communities. He pointed out that the current fiscal year already shows a revenue deficit of Rs 45,891 crore, which will now increase to Rs 1.03 lakh crore following the supplementary demands.
Patil also raised concerns about the government's financial commitments, warning that continued fiscal mismanagement may push the deficit to Rs 2 lakh crore by next budget, jeopardizing welfare spending meant for underprivileged sections of society.
