Thailand's Political Turmoil: Cabinet Reshuffle Amid Leaked Call Controversy

Thailand's political landscape experienced a significant shift on Tuesday when King Maha Vajiralongkorn approved the appointment of new Cabinet members. The reorganization comes in the wake of a major political party's departure, triggered by a leaked phone call involving Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra with Cambodia's former leader.

The changes occur amid mounting speculation that the Constitutional Court may act on a petition accusing Shinawatra of a serious ethical breach. The Court's decision may lead to her suspension from office pending a full investigation. Shinawatra has expressed her willingness to comply with the legal process, albeit reluctantly, noting her concerns about potential disruptions to her work.

The recently published government gazette confirmed the monarch's endorsement. Anutin Charvirakul, former Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, was replaced by Phumtham Wechayachai, who also takes over the Interior Ministry. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, now the culture minister, aims to promote Thai culture globally.
