K C Venugopal, AICC general secretary, alleged political maneuvering behind the appointment of Ravada Chandrasekhar as the new Kerala police chief. He claims it was part of a compromise between the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala and the BJP-led central government.
Venugopal stated that despite Chandrasekhar's recent placement in the Prime Minister's security department, his selection bypassed the deserving Nitin Agarwal. Allegations still circulate regarding Chandrasekhar's involvement in the 1994 Koothuparamba firing, where five CPI(M) activists were killed.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader V D Satheesan downplayed the controversy, asserting Chandrasekhar was merely fulfilling his duties, with CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan supporting the appointment based on merit.
