In the wake of a disturbing gang rape allegation in Kolkata, Union Minister Shantanu Thakur has issued a stern demand for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Citing a fundamental breakdown in law and order, Thakur highlighted what he perceives as an alignment of the state police with the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Speaking candidly to ANI, Thakur asserted that West Bengal has witnessed a surge of 60-70 sexual assault cases since the Trinamool Congress rose to power. "The state police have effectively become an extension of the TMC," he alleged, arguing that women across West Bengal are in jeopardy and advocating for governmental change.

The recent incident involving a female student at South Calcutta Law College, reportedly gangraped on June 25, remains under intense scrutiny. A parent of one of the accused expressed confidence in the judiciary's ability to handle the matter fairly. The main suspect, Manojit Mishra, along with three others, has been detained as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues its investigation.
