Turbulent Skies: Russia-Azerbaijan Relations Strained Yet Hopeful
Russia and Azerbaijan are experiencing strained relations, marked by Azerbaijani demands for Moscow to take responsibility for downing a passenger plane last December. Recent incidents, including the deaths of two Azerbaijani men in Russian custody, have further heightened tensions. However, the Kremlin remains hopeful for recovery.

Russia and Azerbaijan's diplomatic relations are undergoing a challenging phase, but Moscow remains optimistic about their eventual recovery, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The tensions intensified after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev demanded Russia publicly admit to accidentally shooting down an Azerbaijani passenger plane and punish those involved. The incident resulted in the deaths of 38 passengers.
Additional strains in relations have emerged following the deaths of two ethnic Azerbaijani men in Russian police custody. Despite these difficulties, Peskov stated that the ties between the two nations are built on a strong foundation and shared interests.
