The Communist Party of India (CPI) expressed profound sorrow on Monday following the death of veteran leader and former Kerala chief minister V S Achuthanandan. Achuthanandan, celebrated for his substantial contributions to India's Left movement, passed away at the age of 101.
In a statement released on social media platform X, CPI general secretary D Raja declared that Achuthanandan's demise marks the end of an era for the Left and democratic movements in India. Raja highlighted Achuthanandan's unwavering commitment to socialism, secularism, and the rights of the people, describing his political journey as spanning more than eight decades.
Achuthanandan, respected widely across party lines, passed away in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram following treatment for a cardiac arrest. CPI pays tribute to his principled life and legacy, expressing condolences to his family, friends, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
