Kerala Bids Farewell to Legendary Leader V S Achuthanandan

Hundreds of mourners assembled outside the historic Darbar Hall to honour former Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader V S Achuthanandan, who passed away at 101. The solemn procession from his son's residence to the Secretariat drew numerous attendees, including party workers and admirers.
The remains were displayed at the old AKG Centre, where thousands, comprising women, the elderly, and students, paid their respects late into the night. Achuthanandan's body was then moved to his son's home before being commemorated at the Secretariat.
By Tuesday afternoon, his body was scheduled for procession to Alappuzha, leading to cremation at the public crematorium, Valiya Chudukadu, on Wednesday. Kerala declared a public holiday and three-day mourning to honour the leader, who left a profound impact during his tenure from 2006 to 2011.
