In a dramatic stand against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, opposition MPs, spearheaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, organized a protest within the Parliament House complex on Tuesday.
Gathered at Makar Dwar, the opposition voices rang loud against what they claim is an attempt to 'steal elections' through the SIR process in Bihar. The demonstration saw participation from several key parties including the Congress, SP, RJD, TMC, DMK, and JMM, with placards reading 'SIR: Stealing Indian Rights' and 'SIR: Subverting Indian Republic' being brandished.
In conjunction with the protest, a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders took place, where demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address pressing issues in the House were emphasized. These include the Pahalgam terror attack, AI 171 plane crash, and the alleged rising atrocities against marginalized communities. The bloc resolved to elevate these discussions in both parliamentary houses.
