The Election Commission has officially kickstarted the vice presidential election process, focusing on forming an electoral college consisting of MPs from both Houses of Parliament. The panel is in the final stages of appointing returning officers.
"Following the completion of preparatory activities, the election schedule for the Vice President of India will be announced at the earliest," the Election Commission detailed in a statement.
In an unexpected development, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the vice presidency on Monday, citing health-related concerns. His term was originally slated to conclude on August 10, 2027.
