In a move that has intensified the political discourse, Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday brought forth an Adjournment Motion, urging a critical discussion on the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Tagore criticized the exercise, labeling it 'mass disenfranchisement' and 'institutional voter cleansing' orchestrated by the Modi Government.

Tagore's letter branded the exercise as an affront to the legacy of Babasaheb BR Ambedkar, emphasizing that the universal adult franchise should empower citizens beyond barriers of caste, class, or wealth. He expressed concerns about the Election Commission transforming from an independent entity to a political tool, endangering vulnerable groups like laborers, minorities, and the youth.

Emphasizing the broader implications, Tagore warned that what happens in Bihar could become a nationwide democratic issue. He signaled potential replication of similar tactics across states as elections approach. Alongside ongoing protests at Parliament, opposition parties are vocalizing their demand for discussions in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Accusations of voter manipulation persist as the parliamentary session continues until August 21. (ANI)
