In a dramatic escalation of border tensions, Thailand and Cambodia engaged in exchanges of fire on Thursday, resulting in the tragic loss of at least nine civilians.
The Thai military reported that Si Sa Ket province bore the brunt of the violence, with six individuals killed during an incident at a gas station. A total of 14 people sustained injuries across three border regions.
Relations between the two Southeast Asian countries have worsened significantly since a fatal confrontation in May, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier. Rising nationalist sentiments on both sides have exacerbated the volatile situation.
