On the fifth day of the monsoon session, the Lok Sabha is set to deliberate on pivotal pieces of legislation, such as The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of Goa and The Merchant Shipping Bill 2024. The Union Law Minister, Arjun Ram Meghwal, will push for the passage of the Scheduled Tribes bill with proposed amendments.
The bill seeks to enable seat reservations as per Article 332 of the Constitution, promoting democratic participation among Scheduled Tribes by adjusting legislative seats in Goa, necessitated by new tribal community inclusions. Concurrently, Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will present The Merchant Shipping Bill, focusing on modernizing India's maritime laws in compliance with international accords to boost national interests.
Frequent adjournments have disrupted Parliament since its commencement on July 21. Both houses were adjourned amid protests yesterday, with proceedings set to resume at 11:00 AM today. The session, addressing various pending issues, is scheduled to continue until August 21.
