During the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, several opposition parliamentarians in the Rajya Sabha have raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar, submitting Suspension of Business notices to demand a thorough discussion on the matter. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh led the call, emphasizing the need for scrutiny of the voter list revision process in Bihar. Similarly, his colleague, MP Ranjeet Ranjan, submitted a notice under Rule 267 seeking immediate deliberation on the issue.

Other Congress MPs, including Ashok Singh, Neeraj Dangi, and Rajani Patil, have also filed notices under Rule 267, underscoring their collective demand for clarity on the SIR exercise. The opposition's move comes as the Monsoon Session sees significant legislative focus.

Meanwhile, both houses of Parliament are set to reconvene, with the Lok Sabha preparing for discussions on pivotal bills. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will push for the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Bill 2024, aimed at reserving seats in line with constitutional requirements. Similarly, the Merchant Shipping Bill 2024 will be introduced by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to reform maritime laws in accordance with international obligations.
