Manickam Tagore, Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP, has accused the education system of caste-based discrimination, particularly criticizing the fee disparities at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in New Delhi, where OBC students are required to pay higher fees compared to others.
Tagore raised his concerns on social media, calling on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to address what he described as a lack of parity in fee waivers. He highlighted that while Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) receive full tuition waivers, OBC students face substantial fees, sparking a debate on modern forms of discrimination.
Demanding fairness, Tagore urged for equal tuition waivers for OBCs from low-income backgrounds, emphasizing the need for uniform policies to prevent caste-based bias. He criticized current practices as continuing outdated discriminatory policies under the guise of modern education systems.
