A Trinamool Congress leader from Kanaipur in West Bengal's Hooghly district met a brutal end when unidentified assailants attacked him with sharp weapons, police revealed on Thursday.
The tragic incident unfolded near the Kanaipur autorickshaw stand on Wednesday evening, leaving locals in shock. Pintu Chakraborty, a TMC panchayat member, was ambushed by a group of men as he returned home. Witnesses reported seeing the attackers deliver multiple blows before fleeing the scene. Chakraborty was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to SSKM hospital in Kolkata, where he was pronounced dead.
State Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty, a personal acquaintance of the victim, visited the hospital and expressed his inability to fathom the motive behind the heinous act. Meanwhile, opposition leaders have pointed to possible internal disputes within the Trinamool Congress as the motive, adding a layer of political intrigue to the already tense situation. The police have launched a thorough investigation, with hopes high for a swift apprehension of the culprits.
