Kadambur Raju, a former state minister from AIADMK, clarified allegations regarding his remarks on AIADMK's withdrawal from the NDA in 1999, stating they were misrepresented. He insisted that his words had no intention to describe the decision as a 'historical blunder.' The politician expressed dismay over the misinterpretation.
During a prior joint meeting with AIADMK and BJP members, Raju highlighted the consequences that followed the decision to pull out from the NDA under late leader J Jayalalithaa, which he claimed eventually allowed the DMK to ally with the BJP, maintaining power within the central government for over a decade.
However, his statements were met with backlash from former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. He countered, arguing that Jayalalithaa's decision was not a mistake but rather a 'historical revolution' leading AIADMK to significant electoral victories in the 2001 state elections and the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
