In a scathing attack, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of failing to acknowledge the dire state of the Indian economy, labeling it 'dead'. Gandhi's remarks followed U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration of 25% tariffs on Indian goods.
Gandhi alleged that Modi's government has dismantled the nation's economic, defense, and foreign policies, favoring billionaire Gautam Adani in the process. He criticized India's international relations, questioning the effectiveness of the country's foreign policy amid U.S. condemnation and Chinese pressures.
Expressing concerns over Indo-U.S. trade negotiations, Gandhi claimed Trump will dictate terms while Modi complies. He further condemned Modi for making decisions benefiting a few, at the expense of India's small businesses and youth employment.
