Misunderstanding or Malice? Arrest of Nuns Sparks Political Storm in Chhattisgarh

The arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh on allegations of human trafficking and forced conversion has sparked a significant political and religious uproar. BJP state chief, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, described the incident as a misunderstanding and assured that the nuns would be released on bail.

After meeting with Catholic Bishops Conference of India President, Archbishop Andrews Thazhath, Chandrasekhar relayed assurances from both the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister that the state government would not oppose the nuns' bail pleas. He emphasized that the situation should not be politicized.

In contrast, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has accused the BJP government of enabling attacks on the Christian community. Protests have erupted following the arrests, with the UDF claiming growing hostility towards Christians across the country.
