The Election Commission has scheduled the Vice Presidential election for September 9 following the resignation of the incumbent, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on July 21. Key dates include the notification issuance on August 7 and the nomination deadline on August 21.
The electoral college, comprising both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, is responsible for electing the Vice President. With the ruling NDA coalition holding a strategic advantage, the party appears well-positioned for the upcoming vote.
Election rules stipulate that the elected Vice President must be an Indian citizen above 35 years of age, and qualified for Rajya Sabha membership. Voting will use the proportional representation system with a single transferable vote via secret ballot.
