Protests Erupt in Bangkok: Call for PM Shinawatra's Resignation Amid Border Dispute

In the heart of Bangkok, protesters gathered on Saturday demanding the resignation of suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The demonstrations follow a deadly border conflict with Cambodia that resulted in more than three dozen deaths and the displacement of over 260,000 people.

The rally, held at Victory Monument, was marked by patriotic songs and speeches. Protesters criticized Shinawatra and her family's ties with Cambodian leader Hun Sen, who leaked a controversial phone call leading to her suspension. Calls for her departure were fueled by accusations of escalating the long-standing border dispute.

Among the crowd were many from the conservative Yellow Shirts group, opponents of Paetongtarn's father Thaksin, who was ousted in a coup in 2006. The military's influential role in Thai politics is evident, with the army having carried out 13 coups since 1932, highlighting their ongoing power in the nation.
