The Jharkhand government has announced three days of state mourning following the passing of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren. The leader, who was also the founder of the state's ruling party, JMM, died at the age of 81 after a prolonged illness in a New Delhi hospital.

According to an official statement, all government offices across the state will remain closed on August 4 and 5. Furthermore, all scheduled programs have been canceled during the mourning period, which runs from August 4 to August 6, 2025.

In tribute to Soren, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings in Jharkhand. The state reflects on the contributions of the former chief minister, who also served as a Rajya Sabha MP.
