Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has drawn a direct link between socio-economic issues and the rise of extremism, stating that factors such as hunger, poverty, and unemployment are leading individuals towards crime and terrorism.
Raut argued that hunger is a significant catalyst for creating 'monsters' and perpetuating cycles of violence, pointing to cases in various countries including India, Syria, and Russia. He emphasized that government actions often contribute to nurturing such environments.
Highlighting the exploitation of the poor under religious pretenses, Raut mentioned Ajmal Kasab as an example of the outcome when socioeconomic factors are ignored. He suggested that improvements in education and poverty alleviation could prevent individuals from turning to terrorism.
