Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, marking the first such gathering of the ruling leadership in a significant time gap. This meeting comes ahead of the upcoming vice-presidential election nominations starting August 7.
The NDA alliance, with a definite majority in the electoral college, is expected to finalize its vice-presidential candidate by August 21, the closing date for nomination submissions. The ongoing Monsoon Session has seen disruptions due to the united Opposition's continued protests against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
In addition to addressing current contentious issues, Modi is expected to be honored for his government's military response to recent terror incidents. The process for the vice-presidential poll, encompassing both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, remains a political focal point as the Opposition could present a competing candidate by September 9.
