On Monday, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti urged citizens to observe a 15-minute blackout as a symbolic protest against the 2019 unilateral abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian government. This act had revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mufti highlighted August 5 as a day of mourning for the rights, voice, and constitution that were stripped away without consent, urging supporters to turn off their lights at 9 PM to signify this loss and resistance.

Reports indicated that residents in Pulwama, Sopore, Srinagar, and Shopian participated in this act by turning off their lights, with videos posted by the PDP showing solidarity against the removal of Jammu and Kashmir's autonomy.
